Natural Disasters

Natural Disasters

A Poem by KindaCursed

The Weather Channel

fashes portents of doom

because misery equals ratings.

A cyclone can book those commercial spots

but a hurricane can get a sponsor.

Michelin never tires of selling thicker treads

when a blizzard’s pounding New England.

We want to see the destruction

like a tsunami wiping out Indonesia

or a volcano erupting in the Philippines.

It could rain sulfur.

That would be fun to watch

safely tucked away in some fallout shelter

on our crystal-clear sharp LCD display.

Believing we’re far from harm,

we watch these events unfolding

without empathy for our fellow man.

This apathy is really the tragedy:

an unnatural disaster.
