Spirit and the Drum

Spirit and the Drum

A Poem by Onyia-ota, Kingsley Chukwuebuka
"

Africa festival of dance and western music.

Spirit and the Drum

The spirit of the drum is not music - settled!
Drums are mad on the hand of the drummers?
They sing, intoxicated trenchant of the spirit -
The boys; and maidens dance like palm wine in
The Jars are happy; at the centre of the village
Square is thirsty with the palm-cup that drinks.

Some can drink; they knew, some can only dance
With vigour, hips wear Gigida and rhyme with time
Of sound skillfully; quizzically looks into the eyes
Of the drummers are Shnapps; while others clap, and
Dance with Abacha n' Ugba; the snuff sneaks into -
The nostril and rolls out the mucus at the conner.

Music is not happy with the drums before it dance
And cried like a child; there is no consolation from
The musical world against the crescendo of our -
Drums; the music is naked on the stage, apparently,
It wore all clothe of cultural luxury is half-cover.

Sound is dumb that wakes men up from the sleep
After they chewed the kola-nut; the boys are shaking,
Littering dust and particles, the foot is needle that
Hooks on the soil, male significant dance of the maiden.

They beat the drums; drag him beneath the arm's pit,
In-between the two thighs - the boys dance and laugh
The hips of the maiden are gyrating, circling randomly.

Very powerful promotion of drum and dance and their correlation to each other. What it all means to the participants and their effect on the psyche is what I gather. Kudos

You are welcome. Any time.
I can see them dancing now
Using all their strength
Some may drink.. Interesting
Some may not... More interesting
Maybe some are drunken with the spirit
Of the dance...

Jazzy...
