Sunstroke

Sunstroke

A Poem by Kiri J

A dusty ray of midday sun

Settles upon my face

The welcome warmth is a liar and cheat

Burns with her soft,

Charming touch.

I sprawl on the deck

my arms

And legs

Splayed

out

Here, I am a compass.

North

South

East

West

A submissive slave to the summer sky;

Her languid lover,

A fool for the flame…

My hands grasp the grass

My solar seductress has me believing

That I might fall off the ground…

There’s a rainstorm coming…

A light drizzle

Steams and sizzles

On my charred and wilting body

In helpless,

Raspy whispers, I beg her

Break through these blasted clouds

The jealous lover, scorned,

I lay beneath this meddlesome storm

Wet

And soaking

Waiting…
