![]() A Flameless NightA Poem by Nicholas lamb
Flames burned high upon the night,
it emitted such warm light. I had to be dreaming for such a sight couldn't be true, In front of those flames I saw you. I tried to reach you but the flames grew, The closer I got the more I knew, it would probably kill me to reach you. Pushing on and walking forward, I knew what I was walking toward. Sweat poring from my face, I moved toward you with greater pace. My legs felt weak, I was at my peak. The ground scorched my feet, it had such an intense heat. The flames were a blaze, my journey felt like it took days. Skin boiling I reach out my hand, my body so weak I could barely stand. As our fingers began to touch I felt ice, your hands were freezing it felt nice. You pulled me closer into you, but I knew my suffering was not yet through. You held me close, we were nose to nose. You press your icy lips against my forehead, then you said, “Your safe now so rest your head.” The flames faded out of sight, and it became a flameless night. © 2016 Nicholas lamb |
