You led me to believe that you were really true

I waited up for you
Although you never showed
I spent my hours looking forward to your light
My life was dead and gray, and you brought promises of life
Oh, what a life!
My heart beat out my chest
When you just walked by
I swore you heard it and I walked away ashamed, but
Soon you were everywhere, and we made golden memories
When life was sweet

There are always things that try to push us apart
I was ready to fight for your heart
But, your conscious soon gave in and then you gave me up
I wasn't worth your shame
I wasn't worth the pain
You couldn't stand their gossiping
I wasn't worth a thing.

But, I can remember all those days out in the sun
I can remember all the evenings on the run

Your poem did a good job of expressing the pain of a one sided breakup. "The first line isn't grammatically correct." That's one of the good things about poetry, you can break all the rules and no one gives a s**t. Well done.

Wow, I love this so much. It's that kind of heart-wrenching, sob-inducing, absolutely lovely poetry. (And don't listen to The Dudeman, not every line in a poem has to rhyme, and that just makes this poem more genuine.) I love it when someone can just pour their heart into their poetry. Not every line rhymes. You also make use of a few half-rhymes. The imperfect rhyming is what I believe sets song lyrics apart from other poetry.
