Ignis Fatuus

Ignis Fatuus

A Poem by Kit Croydon

Ignis fatuus

wisp in the iris

deaths muted candle, there-

alight with Osiris.

Dusk paints the welkin

night thunders behind

the will seals a whisper, there -

in silence confined.

Life’s grand aspiration

Waxing Pisces moon

A star once named Omega, there -

A glint in the gloom.

Hollow music in the bracken fern

Whistling cave-like skull

Moon hangs in the marshes, there -

Igniting in the null

Will o’ the wisp

Will o’ the whisper

Will of the wandering wing.

Wisp borne by the breeze

Deaths lamp in the trees

I curse my fate to wither at sights such as these.
