A Couple

©Colin Mardell 2000

Man, old and grey

Worked all his life;

At the end of the day

Loves his wife.

Woman, aged and bent,

Life taken its toll

With husband content,

But worn by her role

Both, hurt by the years

Yet healed by affection;

Pulled apart by their fears

And together for protection.

Ahhhh. With a bit of inflection at the end there. Sad and touched at once.

Succinct and beautifully written, tells such a true story too. I really like this.

What a beautiful poem. Simple as that really, well craftred with cracking word play. Great read and even better, memorable
