The American Dream is

 

 

 

riding pregnant on

a stolen bicycle

smoking crack

for my unborn child

whom I feed popsicles

when men tiptoe

out of blue suits

into my alley bed.

A damnable indictment of the American Nightmare.
I have read your poetry and this poem sticks out in your voice and particular style. I like how the poem is meant to be observational. What makes it so strong is the stark images the poem provokes, the sadness of a 21st century mother living in The United States Of America.
