Hope (Esperanza)

Hope (Esperanza)

A Poem by Korrin Perry

Tell me I’m forgiven and loved

That one-day the fetters of the precedent biting at my wrists

will sever off

that one-day brackish tears of despondency

will roll down my shell in bliss

that one-day the leeches whom suck me dry of self-contentment

will find new prey

Tell me I’m worthy and precious

That one-day the desolate images that obscure my mind

will become transparent with truth

That one-day the damage done to my body

will be repaired in beauty

That one-day my sightless eyes

will see the staggering, blinding landscape of life

Tell me I’m desired and holy

That one-day the rock I yearn to be upon

will be unwavering and consoling

That one-day the superfluous objects, dissatisfying to the soul

will disintegrate in my clutch

That one-day the Father, King, and Holy One

will smile upon me and say,

"You are forgiven and loved.

You are worthy and precious.

You are desired and holy”
