I have no idea how to write poems, so the wording probably sucks, but I think the idea is good. Any suggestions on the wordings?

I would suggest more attention to meter, you are describing something without a hint of a subject and try not to use simple words as the ending on every line.

If you want to write good poetry, read the classics, then reread and reread and reread. How to articles are usually worthless.

I read some of each and realized I might never be able to write really good poetry in English, because it's not my native language and one really has to know the language to write poetry...

I don't agree. You can if you can appreciate the lyrical nature of the words you do know. Ideas and emotions are universal.
