I Had A Dream

I had a dream, all lives mattered.
I had a dream where if I wanted to protest my beliefs, I would not be severely injured or killed.
I had a dream where I could trust my life in the arms of law enforcement.
I had a dream where watching the news wasn’t just a live broadcast of obituaries.
I had a dream that the color of your skin, or the religion you believed in wasn’t an automatic, negative label that was placed on you at birth.
I had a dream where suicide and drug overdoses didn’t tear families apart.
I had a dream where giving murders a taste of their own medicine was illegal and inhumane.
I had a dream that everyone was equal and equally struggled to achieve their own “American Dream”.
I had a dream that our new generations are not raised off of technology and neglect.
I had a dream where our politicians were not able to be paid off.
I had a dream, and that is all it was, a dream. The world we live in evolves everyday, and as we all think that our technology and billions of dollars in research is helping us, it is also slowly killing us. Why can’t we go back to the simple days where you can go out at night without the overwhelming worry of rapist, murderers and thieves stalking your every move, waiting for their perfect opportunity. We all can dream, and we all can think that something is the right thing to do, but until we as Americans start doing more, nothing is going to change.

I enjoyed your work, what a sad truth it is that nothing in the news is good news, it's always bad, bad, bad - I always thought there should be a good news programme on after the actual news that focused on anything good, maybe someone doing good works in the community, human interest stories, anything other than the depressing stuff we hear day in day out... no wonder so many people suffer anxiety and depression - well done on your thought provoking poem
