One and Only

One and Only

A Poem by Kylie Dunlop-Grigg

I lay in bed and watch you sleep,

You look just like a little kid.

Trying to keep warm from the cold,

That is surrounding your heavenly body.

You snuggle up in between your blankets,

And drift off into that world beyond this.

You don't even know I am watching you,

I turn away, but I have to look again.

Your face puts me under a spell,

One that is unbreakable.

I can't stop looking but I know I must,

The sandman is calling me to his castle.

I open my eyes and you're still there,

I couldn't help but check you weren't gone.

I drifted off into a deep sleep,

When I awoke, you were awake and up.

You were leaving me, leaving me here.

You had to go, go onto a better place.

I hope you don't forget me,

And you'll come back to see me soon.

I could not bear not to see you again,

You are the one and only one for me.
