Break the Chain

Break the Chain

A Poem by Kylie Dunlop-Grigg

I was so angry and hurt,
When the words were thrown.
What did I do that was so terrible
To deserve the punishment,
That was dished out on a spoon.
The anger and rage inside is burning,
Can you see the expression on my face?
That everlasting bond has been broken,
How to mend it, I don't know.
What will happen next?
The beatings again?
Why such a terrible thing,
To something so sweet?
It has gone back to the old days,
My life is going backwards.
That terrible torment would kill me this time.
Not a pathetic attempt, but for real.
I could not handle it, not then,
Not now, not EVER again.
And all because you started the chain again.
You fixed the link that was meant
to be broken,
And gone forever.
