In a Different Light

In a Different Light

A Poem by Brandon Langley
"

AKA: Or are you just Blind

"
How do you see yourself,
As not beautiful?
Perhaps in a different light than I?
In time, the sun will shine upon you nicely,
Or are you just blind?

Look at those pictures of yourself,
with that fool,
Would you not be better with I?
In time, you will realize, but only in the same light as I.
I know as much, but my heart has been broken blindly,
Am I jealous or are you just blind?

'As not beautiful?'--> something about this phrasing is awkward to me. I suppose you were trying to avoid saying 'as ugly'? I guess you could try 'As unbeautiful?'...but this is just a suggestion : )

Nice message. I like the two sides you depicted (cleverly in two stanzas) of lost or impossible love. The metaphor of the sun shining and revealing beauty you cleverly adapted with the question of 'or are you blind?' in which case the light would do nothing to reveal such beauty. I get an image of someone who is in love with another person who may have low self esteem and ended up becoming romantically(?) involved with someone else who doesn't respect this person/ doesn't see all that this person is. Bittersweet. I hope the character isn't blind and will one day see the light of the sun. Well written piece of poetry.
