Too Long Gone

Too Long Gone

A Poem by LA Lorena

I've been too long gone
I came to realize too late
just what he meant to me
and how foolish I have been
I pushed him away
refused to allow love in
no matter how
persistently it knocked
Time marches on
it waits for no one
and love, when it happens
does so only
at the most inopportune times
I have searched all the old haunts
all traces of him have vanished
Gone
like a puff of smoke on the breeze
his presence has disappeared
all that remains is the imprint
etched on my heart

Sometimes, you abruptly bring the curtain down; prematurely ending the play. No more time; no second chances.
Whether or not it's what you actually wanted, it's what you precipitated.
Tragically lived; masterfully written.

Thank you Frank, for reading, and for your thoughtful comments.
Wonderful work. Painfully perceptive, so light of touch, yet so hauntingly harrowing. We all crave love. yet let it slip away while distracted by everyday horse-s**t.
