What It's Like

What It's Like

A Poem by L Gracchus
"

Broken hearts

"

It’s like someone chopping off your legs,
And asking you to dance.

It’s like someone ripping out your vocal cords,
And demanding that you sing.

You stare down at the bloody stubs;
You explore the gaping hole in your neck;
You know it can’t be done.

It’s like someone cutting the life support,
And expecting you to survive.

It’s like someone clamping down on your neck,
And telling you to breathe.

You look over at the machine;
You desperately claw at the hands;
You know you’re about to die.

This is someone breaking your heart,
And hoping that you’ll just move on.

You can’t explain the feeling;
You know something is wrong;
You just feel lost,
Empty,
Worthless,
Hopeless,
And alone in a crowd.

Surely,
It can’t be done.
You’re about to die.
