Know That I Too
We are never alone (a poem for mental health month)
It's Funny How Things Are

It's Funny How Things Are

A Poem by Ally
"

A 911 tribute.

"

It's funny how things are.

lt's funny how many things are too big for us to handle.

How one thing, even after years and years,

Will still make people suck in their breath

whenever you mention it.

How one thing can be so immense

that no matter how far away,

it still hits you in the chest

like a ton of ice;

Cold, hard, unforgiving.

September 11th.

6 years ago, it was merely a date

A birthday, or a special gathering

The day your braces came off,

Or  when you passed a hard test.

But as of 2001, September 11th was no longer “just a date”.

It was a day fear really set in

A day that we all realized what we were capable of

Both the good, and the terrible.

A day that no matter what age you were, you still knew it was bad

By the tears on your mom's face,

The coldness in your father's eyes

That for years to come,

people will pass this story onto their children

For years to come, people will stand in silence in the morning,

and throw flowers on the grave sites

of people they've never even met.

And the words that always make lumps in our throats

and tears in our eyes:

Ground zero

Twin towers

911

Pentagon.

and for once, no matter the theories on why and how,

everyone knows what

everyone knows where

and everyone is who.
