End Of Days

End Of Days

A Poem by LJW

Shutting the door to the bedroom,
small and cold, wakening always
to fear - no cries for help - no
sound at all - to the fables
created to keep the children silent

Farewell to the oath breakers,
the abusers and the accusers, the fighters strung up
in their corners, to the fanatics
and schemers, to the n'er do wells

Farewell to the aiders and destroyers,
the deviants and reprobates,
to the confusers and those
who blur and deface, whose
power prevails every time

One day a child will raise a sword.
Should the wolf who once lurked
in the shadows of children's dreams
lay curled at his small feet smiling,
we will know why

Like Chris, I had some wolf dreams when I was about 13. I was walking to our church when a wolf came out of the forest and stared at me. Years later, I believe that dream symbolized some religious teachings that I needed to recognize as harmful.

I saw and felt myself as a small child waking from the terrors of nightmares. All the the things that scared me by day, coming alive at night. There is much to be afraid of, even for grown ups.

Yes, I had in mind everything many children have to go through to survive.
yes, those wolves need their balls sliced off, they already lost any sense of morality.
strong, emotional piece,

Thank you Jacob.
The poem comes across as an indictment of the external influences that can impinge on our minds as we grow up. Shutting the door may symbolically mean closing oneself off from these influences and their effects. Thus protected, the mind may one day learn how to protect itself, and God help those wolves then.

I love it! More power to that precious, brave child who takes a swing for justice!

Part valediction, part grim dystopian foreboding, all good.

you remind me all too well of the times we live in now....there is no floor, no ceiling, no colour, no distinct sound....and we funny little creatures are doing this all to ourselves
