Just One Word

Just One Word

A Poem by Lola Nation

Just one word
or even several
would help
compromise

Maybe
just an explanation
might
alleviate the
tension, the deep rooted
and trust me,
buried
sadness
associated with
your name

Just a reason
to silence the
Cicada of my mind
hostage in trees
ready to burrow and breed
again

Just a simple
tone
I could listen to closely
or hear from a distance

Just a whisper in leaves
or a thunder before the storm

Something
to understand

Not
this empty lightening
hiding before seeking
shelter in the sky
and clapping in four beats
before the
torrential rain

Not this flash
before a captured moment
instilled in Kodak while I closed my eyes
and smiled blindly anyway

Not this wish
you were here
or since when
time
frozen
while the heat ever rises
and the humidity climaxes
at the front door screen

I reach for the door knob
to let you in
but I wait
because I know you’ve always
had the key

And still has the key by the sound of it. Good linking of lightning ,making flash of a captured moment blinding.
Well done.

A moving and poignant read... gently reflective, with effective images trailing down the page and the repeated phrase that reminds of the feelings that won't go away...
