Beguiled

Beguiled

A Poem by LaQuinta

He played melodies with my heart strings

From dusk until dawn we bathed in the moon’s soft rays

Two silhouettes became one

Danced beautifully against walls

I was Esther, He was Xerxes

Submerged seashells, he combed the beach for me

My eternity,

Until rose colored lenses became cracked

Off came the mask

What treachery, caught in a whirlwind of deceit

Snatched from spring

Flung into winter

Words rained down in torrential down pours

Flooded my soul, swept away my essence, all I was left with

Brown leaves, twigs snapped under my feet

Dreams tossed into the wind

Held captive in the abyss

Puppet strings tangled

April’s fool again
