Dedication to Don

Dedication to Don

A Poem by Mayra Fernandez
"

April 29th is the 3 year anniversary of the shooting of Adrian Cabrera, otherwise known as "Don"

"
He was
Simply amazing
Heart beat for the
happiness of others
For the smiles shown by
a person that forgot how to
Reminded people
That every something
has an opposite
That the sun always shines
behind the darkest of clouds
His should was a sponge
absorbing everyone's tears
and pain
Scrubbing the stain
off their hearts
Letting it shine once again
Solving everyone's x's and y's
hearing everyone's cries
bringing the truth out of lies
pulling the voice out of the shy
Finding the good in goodbye
so no one knew why
Why the tears absorbed
were now red
Spilling across the sharp
rocky concrete
with nothing to absorb it
Why the gun shot heard around the world
was treated as if nobody heard it
Why the streets were flooded with tears
Since there was no shoulder
to collect them
No ear to listen to the cries
Because the ear
the shoulder
the heart
the boy
was now hidden in a closed casket
Innocent
Young
With so much potential
He wanted to teach
but no one would know
No one would see
nor care
because no flag ever went half staff for his lost life
No black and white newspaper clipping
Not even a 30 second segment on News 4
for to them
It was just another gang crime
It was just another thug
stealing and killing people
to them
There's just one less mouth to feed
one less desk to fill in
one less gang banger on the streets
To them
a box of abandoned kitten
was more important
than a wrongful teenage death
to them
it was just another ghetto kid
Lost to the streets

About
I'm a 15 year old poet that just wants to become better. I'm open to all critiques for I feel as if I need a lot of work, but all anyone says about my poetry is that it's "deep". I want something that.. more..
