Swings and roundabouts

Swings and roundabouts

A Poem by Lauren Xena Campbell

Swings and roundabouts,
Is this really what life is about?
Swinging on the goal posts,
Halftime,
Shoot to score but hit the bar?
What’s it really good for!

Ambition,
A keen feat in this life,
Ambition,
Something we all share,
Yet together we pull down,
The foundations of aspiration,
Bursting out in tears,
Defeated,
It’s all just,
….

Passion,
Renewed and regretted,
Passion,
Endless circles of emotion,
Fix the wounded heart,
Move on,
Come running back,
Loving arms?
It’s all just,

Exhaustion,
Tired and old,
Exhilaration,
Speeding up, getting on,
Forever in an endless rota,
Going up, going down,
Constantly in action,
It’s all just,

Shoot to score,
Eye on the goal,
Ambition,
Passion,
Get up and go,
Exhaustion,
Exhilaration,
The final round,
Target, IN,
Winner!
Highs and lows,
It’s all just,
Swings and roundabouts.

Highs and lows,

It's all just,

Swings and roundabouts.

This is a great way to look at life..............and yes, so very true........we could well be in a childs playground,
its not always fun at all...............has highs and lows, and such emotional turmoil, love your use
of metaphors.

Exhaustion caught my eye. I am definitely in that phase, yet like a stick of rhubarb under a pot I keep reaching for the light at the top, growing stringier and stringier. I await a little light exhilaration! Where are the dodgems?!
