The Hidden Ds of World's Democracy

The Hidden Ds of World's Democracy

A Poem by Lauren Xena Campbell
"

Something I thought up while walking the dog

"

Honor and trust a passing flirtation,

Swept away by the worlds own self exploitation,

With endless winds and hurricane seas,

Be there a need for a bullet killed society?

With every step from the Front gate,

Dangers lurks behind our shoulders even more,

With every threat on these Sunny Streets,

Shall it be safer to risk the blizzard snow pecks?

Death

the headlines of every calendar weak

Destruction

with Mother Earths own power

Demise

the fate of this realms tower

Deceased

each kid with a gun

You have a very powerful image at the end of this piece... I like what you did with the font... the large letters loam out toward the reader -- very menacing and bold (also hard to ignore, which I think is an important fact for the poems end, it also begs the question how so many people in society can ignore those issues). I think there may be something interesting in there... why they begin to ignore those headlines, perhaps the saturation of the media, I don't know. But, I thought you may want to work with that concept in a later poem or something.

The first stanza was interesting for me because it makes me wonder why humanity has to turn on itself when there's so many external problems that should unite us together as a group... like the hurricanes or the death of earth approaching (in the last stanza). It makes a lot of the problems between people seem trivial.

Really interesting poem, it made me think about a lot of different things going on in today's world.

Sadly, this is true but not just with the "democracy" of this country. It is more a world wide problem of Man's greed and lack of respect for human life.

I like the way you have written this....good stuff!
