Free at Last

A poem I wrote when finding the courage to break free of my past and it's demons

Free at Last

 

I release those who hurt me

willing and unwilling

 

I remember those

who showed the truth

behind real beauty and love

 

I hold on to those who actually care

 

I forget those

whose words

have no merit

 

I remember those

who seem to forget

 

that forgiveness is heartfelt

and forgetting is sometimes hard

 

I release those who meant everything to me

who are no longer here

 

those who are still with me

I will always hold close

 

Memories are forever

The present will some day

be the past

 

I live now in the knowing

that my heart is free at last
