The Only One For Me

Just wrote this, spur of the moment.

To know that I have hurt you breaks my heart in two

If I could make a wish, I would replace your sadness with joy

My only aspiration is to spend my life with you

A privilege I pray you’ll grant

 

In your arms I feel safe

Your love makes me whole

This sudden confusion, so jarring and strange

Has reinforced what my heart already realized

 

These two organs don’t always get a along

The head and the heart, forever arguing

The one contemplative, the other strong and sure

Beating out its confidence, I shouldn’t have ignored

 

That sound it hammered into my head

That voice so self-assured

Pounding down my selfish doubts

Reminding me of what is real

 

The two may not always agree

On what is right and what is wrong

But when it comes to you, my love

There is one thing that is sure

 

You are the one for me, my love

Of that I feel no doubt

You are my other half, the one

Who I can never be without
