Expiration Date

Two lovers lying side by side

eyes perfectly aligned.

Always together

never apart

their love will never fade.

The smile upon his face

now a grimace

her eyes are partly closed

the lids still flutter

those pretty lashes

a splendor to behold.

Their hands so close

almost touching

fingers reach out in desire.

And though their love

will never die

these two will soon expire.

The blood around his head

stains the checkered tile

her eyes begin to fade.

Taking a few last breaths

they gaze into each other’s eyes

one

last

time.
