The Reasons For Dating

The Reasons For Dating

A Poem by Lalli
"

hmmmm... what could they be... what were their original intent?...

"

The Reasons for Dating

Let's talk about relationships

Let’s talk about the point of them

Which apparently, has been missed

I’ve heard,

Ignorance is bliss

But it has the bad habit of biting back, attacking with a ruthless twist

If there isn’t a realistic future

Then cut the chord

There’s no neutral

Dating has become one sided

With a selfish intent instead of a decision to find a person to confide in

A significant other, who’ll listen like a brother, have the sex appeal of a lover

A companion

With the strength of a champion

Who will be by your side through hell’s darkest canyon

They will build and protect

Listen to secrets to be kept

And actually keep them

I’ll be able to trust

Knowing I’m the only man that she’ll lust

I must fight the temptations,

Thrust my sword’s revelations and in the end

She’ll be the means of my inspirations

My heart will be attacked

Seized and bombarded

With her in my life she’ll be the reason, it’ll be comfortably guarded

To never again be emotionally scarred

It’s a woman with these sorts of traits is the reason I date

To perpetuate a love that no matter what mistake I make

Our relationship will escape the deathly demise of the graveyard coffin crate

Since it was formed from a relationship built by truth

We’ll be able to choose a base of meaningful values

That will attribute to a depth of love that’s impossible to lose

It will create a reason to forcefully keep breathin’

To continue fighting no matter the storm of the season

To be able to wake up

With my arms around my cuddle bug, warm, comfy, and snug

And finally enjoy, the true essence, of love

I dig it.

I'm always a fan of spoken word/poetry, and this is how it read (my apologies if it wasn't inteded to be read as such). I like the off rhymes, and the long lines accompanied by some of the harsher perfect end rhymes creates a beat that's fast as you speak, with a longer pause after each stanza; this does something amazing you may have never realized (thought if you intended it, only makes you a more amazing poet): rather than giving a laundry list in poetic fashion about what you love in another, it gives the feeling of love as a universal, with ups and downs, perfections and flaws, speeds that are never constant, and sigularities that jar the heart out of apathy. Truly something that needs to be heard.

A solid piece, to say the least.

Wow, Lalli!
Brilliant write! I could actually hear the beat of this poem in my mind, the way you have crafted the rhyme, repetition of words, and alliteration. Very impressive! Too many poets don't understand how to use rhyme effectively to produce the right results, so that is why your work stands out! I can imagine if this piece were to be read aloud it would have an impressive impact on the audience. Both your poetic mechanisms and the point of your poem work harmoniously to heighten the readers response! Great! :)

This should be the truth of every relationship. But my favorite part of this is "To be able to wake up

With my arms around my cuddle bug, warm, comfy, and snug"

Ah, the longing heart. Makes me miss what I so dearly need. Truth be known, we all need love.

I guess I need to say it one more time....
Your writing
Is
Amazing
Brilliant
Passionate
Heart-Felt
Gives me goose bumps
Where as all of this is true
They hardly seem to be enough.
I love your poetry...
I would buy a collection.
