The Things That We Forget

The Things That We Forget

A Poem by Whiskurz

The longer we live, the harder it is
To remember our fading past
Our memories somehow slip away
Destined never to last

Have you ever wondered what happens
To the things that we forget?
They're handed down in the stories we tell
To people we've never met

As time goes on they start to grow
Each time that they are told
Sometimes our memories are written down
In a book that might be sold

While others may turn to legend
Growing bigger every day
Some are told a thousand times
Each time a different way

Our memories start to fade with time
But they're not finished yet
People will know the life we've lived
In the things that we forget

Never there was a time that I've read anything for you and I wasn't amazed, I enjoyed this one very much, perfect rhyming, excellent choice of theme, I read it aloud , that much I've enjoyed :)

The things that we forget - how profound. I find every day something else I've forgotten. This definitely strikes a chord within me...

Great write.

The last two stanza's are the ones that pulled the whole piece together for me. The fourth one mentioning how people tell stories and could exaggerate them or add different things to them, at least that's my interpretation. The last stanza gives me a somewhat..."mixed" feeling, I guess you could say. The most prominent thing I got from it was that maybe people see how you really live by/from you forgetting things, maybe bad things or experiences, or maybe something else. Good write. Made me think.
