Poe's Shadows

Poe's Shadows

A Poem by Whiskurz

Raised by the shadows that eat my mind
Their voices beckoning still
Freedom is futile, it's too hard to find
As the darkness covets my quill

I scream at the silence at the top of my voice
But the noise won't disappear
I write what I'm told, they give me no choice
They feed me a cup full of fear

Crippled in spirit my soul starts to weep
Forbidden to search for the light
Their talons hold tight they're buried too deep
Tearing the hope from my sight

The shadows rejoice at their impotent son
For redemption's just out of reach
They record my transgressions and the evil I've done
As I swallow the words that they preach

Born to the shadows that lust for my quill
Lost in perdition's vast fold
The darkness devours and thirsts for my will
I fear that my soul has been sold

Oh How I want to run inside your poem and rescue that trapped soul! That's what this poem did do me. I love the rhyme throughout, and your choice of words is amazing.
