Awakened

Awakened

A Poem by J.K.P.
"

I woke up at 5 a.m. and decided to watch the sunrise for the first time in a while.

"

Silence and shadows

envelop the room.

Clothed in darkness,

chairs and table corners

excitedly greet

unknowing toes and hips.

Restrained swears empower

a few limps to the window.

The glass is cool.

Outside the world is inked

with unmoving silhouettes.

Dormant.

Dreaming.

Waiting.

A small insect lands upon the sill,

making one last venture

around the kitchen, its planet.

The house creaks.

It is sore, weather-beaten.

The clock’s pendulum swings,

resigned to the monotony of its

 wooden prison.

6:25.

There.

A sliver of gold peeks over the horizon

and pierces the night.

The birds scrape their wings across the clouds

and chirp with triumph.

With a great yawn the sun awakes,

teasing the sky with warmth.

Beautiful.

Breathtaking.

A divine performance.

Arms of sunlight stretch to embrace

a hidden world.

It explodes with color.

I love these lines:
"The birds scrape their wings across the clouds
and chirp with triumph.
With a great yawn the sun awakes,
teasing the sky with warmth."

You are very good, my dear. Some have it and some don't. Some must sweat for it and some are naturals. You seem a natural. I am seriously impressed. I will read on.

"Outside the world is inked with unmoving silhouettes." - Beautiful

I love the entire poem, each line is magical and took me to the sunrise...something i never get up to watch, i'm more likely to spend the night outside watching the moon and stars.
Wonderfully done!

"The birds scrape their wings across the clouds
and chirp with triumph." That's a truly great line, as well as
"Outside the world is inked with unmoving silhouettes."

It's a beautiful poem but those two jumped out at me. Reminds me of many mornings on the front porch or perched at a window with my father as we just sat and quietly watched the world around us and took it all in. Very nicely written!

This is totally awesome. I'm big on scenery description and this poem burst forth with both great word choice and vivid imagery. Great job!
