Pen or a Mantelet

Pen or a Mantelet

A Poem by Lathen Griffiths

Should I put pen to paper
to fill these blank marauding spaces
and cut down this enemy called emptiness
that waits dormant in such places.
Do I need a pen or a mantelet,
to bring to you these words today?

I’ve seen many speak of love
As a battle between the sexes
Of hoodoo dolls and potions
Of voodoo spells and hexes.
Do I need a pen or a mantelet,
to bring to you these words today?

Truth is I need neither a pen, or a mantelet
there’s no one here who is either
firing arrows or words my way
still we write, for write we must I say!
Do I need a pen or a mantelet,
to bring to you words today?

First stanza so true! It is always daunting to confront an empty page of a notebook. So I guess it is a similar feeling when cutting down emptiness. It is such a challenge.

Thank you Frederick.

Lathen
Repetition works very well and the rhyme scheme is lovely. Arrows or harsh words have the power to hurt. This is beautiful poetry Lathe. Read it over the weekend but have just got round to leaving a comment.
