Goodbyes

Goodbyes

A Poem by Laura Kate

Last night I died
tears streaming from my eyes
before I even realised
that I was half way through
writing my goodbyes.

I stopped
to mourn myself;
the person who was
and the self to whom
she was saying
her goodbyes.

Saying goodbye isn't easy. Though we know where we coming from, we merely know where we are but oblivious of where we are going.
I don't know if it's the pain of our memories that could fade or the love for the people who we are leaving behind that makes us cry.
I even notice that we do cry over leaving behind a terrible human.

It's just a mystery that I've been trying to understand, why we often weep on saying goodbye.

Well expressed, Laura.

I hadn't heard of this news, that is so deeply tragic, poor man :(
I must ask if the goodbye is to the present or former self. I’ve written a few of those notes, too. I’d like to say goodbye to the bad me. Maybe that’s what this poem is about? An artful thought-provoker.

Sounds like the aftermath of some major life changing event. Physical death death did not occur, but the person will never be the same again.

I think we all consider our own death at times. One day it will happen, I am I no rush to get there. Nicely penned LauraKate.
