A Poem by Emerson Laurel Holmes
"

A suicidal man determines whether or not to end his life.

"
I look at the setting sun,
Thinking about how you've hurt me, and all that you've done.
This was the end. Farewell, Adios, Au Revoir.
Maybe the water will help eliminate my scars.
I look at the churning sea,
and wonder how it'll feel when death is all I'll be.
Will death be just the end, if I die?
Or is there a Heaven for me up in the skies?
I look up, and try to imagine the angels dancing to the endless songs on their harps,
The songs the harps sang where perfect: neither flat nor neither sharp.
I feel my left hand slip and I just want to fall in the churning waters below,
Death will follow me, whenever I choose to let go.
I look at the cars driving behind me, not batting one eye,
My knuckles turn white when I think of all your little white lies.
I scan the cars: red, silver, black, and blue,
As crazy as it sounds, I hope one of them is you.
I was looking for my sanity, but I know she will never come,
She was probably still cheating with that Doctor, I thought, full of glum.
I wait five minutes for you, and you never show.
I turn back to the water, preparing to let go.
Let go of my life, my dreams, my successes.
If I didn't, I imagine the pain and suffering as it progresses.
I hear a car door slam, and I turn around.
It's a plump old man, and I frown.
He looks like my grandfather, and I start to cry.
"Please save me!" He just shakes his head, and drives away: he didn't even try.
There's no one to save me now, I'm all alone,
I get ready to jump into the waters below.
I set this letter down by my side,
And I ask the readers one thing: would you collide?
Would you stop me from jumping, letting me let go only of my strife.

Would you be there and save me life?
Or would you just drive away?
Even as I contemplate to end it all, and leave my life in disarray?
There's thousands of people driving on by,
They never bat an eye,
But I need a hero to save the day.
I have a yesterday, but I need to make sure I have more than just a yesterday.
I need a tomorrow, today.
Will you be the person who'll save my life, and save the day?
