The Hypnotist

The Hypnotist

A Poem by LaurenEbanks

Gaze at me. Wander into my eyes
and reveal your inner desires. I am
a witch, a voodoo master, the devil.
My calling card swings on its vine like
a spider caught in the wind. Catch a
glimpse. You are my warrior, my spy,
my lover, my enemy. I can twist
words with a tip of my hat and a
flash of my teeth. Are you scared?
Are you envious? Are you there?
I caught you in my bone cage and
now you are trapped. Stuck in my
tangle of barbed wire until I see fit
to free you. A bird with broken wings.
Scream, I beg you, scream. As loud as
a thunder storm and no one will hear.
Laugh, I beg you, laugh. As soft
as the moon and I will not falter.
Dance for me, sway like a reed for me.
I am the narcissist. I am the hypnotist.
I am the fire. And you belong to me.
