Here They Shall Remain

Here They Shall Remain

A Poem by LawrenceRaybon
"

A poem

"

I bury the twin blades,

Mind Render, Soul Eater

into the steadfast stone

that is resolve.

And here they shall remain,

though stress seeks to remove them.

And here they shall remain,

though pain presses for revenge.

Bequeathed by my father;

as much a part of me

as the wounds, now healed

on battered and bruised flesh.

Forged in resentment,

of maliciousness

mined from the echoes

of shattered dreams.

And here they shall remain,

though sorrow seeks to remove them.

And here they shall remain,

though pride presses for revenge.

For though these blades

can cut to the quick,

they quickly cut the wielder

ever more deeply.

Unmitigated misery,

It is their birthright.

Unending anguish,

It is their aim.

And here they shall remain,

though suffering seeks to remove them.

And here they shall remain,

though pettiness presses for revenge.

Now I am the father,

And for my family

I shall learn,

I shall love.

And I shall leave

these baleful blades

to rust and ruin;

never to be reforged

And here they shall remain,

with me, their willing jailer.

And here they shall remain,

with me, encased in my resolve.

You expressed your resolve quite well within these flaming words. It’s noble of you not to pass an inherited mind and soul fracturing juggernaut born of broken ancestral dreams on to your children, that double-edged sward of retribution. There comes a time when multigenerational feuds must be forgotten where our swards are left to rust. (The Hatfield’s and McCoy’s should put down their feuding shotguns and join as one family.) I wish that all those feuding minions in the Middle East, and Asia would do the same.

What an eloquent, insightful review.

I believe the blades are "mind render" and "soul eater", whatever we have on our minds, that which we ruminate on can end up eating our soul. It's a very emotionally powerful poem, I see it as the will and resolve to allow the pain to wash over you so that you can grow and become the "father".
