If Society Is A Car...

If Society Is A Car...

A Poem by Laya Bly Nessa

If society is a car, everyone thinks they can fix it.
Let's say that car gets into a crash.
The doctors think they're the most important.
"We need to make sure the person is okay! Let us through! We're needed!"
The lawyers think they're the most important.
"Why'd it crash? Faulty brake? We can sue! You deserve justice! We're needed!"
Mechanics think they're the most important.
"We need to fix that car! Its all banged up and hard to drive! We're needed!"
The therapists think they're the most important.
"He could have gone through psychological trauma! We're needed!"
The journalists think they're the most important.
"Everyone needs to know how this happened! We're needed!"
The police think they're the most important.
"Was he drunk? Texting? We have to get to the bottom of this! We're needed!"
The teachers think they're the most important.
"These kids need a good education so stuff like this does't happen to them! We're needed!"
The parents think they're the most important.
"We need to teach our children the importance of safety and awareness! We're needed!"
The city planners think they're the most important.
"We need to re-arrange the stop signs and get rid of the blind driveways. We're needed!
Everyone thinks they're the most important.
"We're needed! We're needed! We're needed! Tell us we're needed!"
Because all anyone cares about is who the most important is.
But maybe is we worked together we could make the victim feel safe! Instead of fighting for control we can try to improve our society side by side! Form an assembly line and repair the car one part at a time, unsteady of arguing over who gets to re-attatch doors and playing tug-a-war with wrenches! At the end of the day, wouldn't that make all of us needed?

"But I want to be the most needed!"
"Yeah, me too!"
"I am the most needed!"
"I'm needed!"
"I'm more needed!"
"Tell me you need me!"
