Sharpie

Sharpie

A Poem by Leanne Conway

I had a chance to fix everything
But instead I kept it the same
All the harsh words we exchanged
Pushing each other over the limit
Telling you to get out and leave
Telling you that it's all over

I deleted all our pictures
I erased your damn number
No more memories to be made

I'm throwing in the towel
Falling to my knees in the pouring rain
My tears falling so quickly
I'm tired of us being a thing
You tell me that I'm yours
That you'll never leave me lonely
But one little fight we had
Has you reaching for that door

Tell me that this is all a dream
Show me that you still need me
Hold me like you still want me
Because all I feel like doing is screaming
Watching the pouring rain falling
Mixing with my tears tonight
I thought this was forever
But I'm learning so quickly
It's one big game and I'm losing

There is no recovering from this
We're going to hug once last time
Then part our separate ways
Say your goodbyes my dear
For once you do I'll be gone
No one last minute kisses
No more "I love you" text messages
No more middle of the night I need you's
It's all gone with no fixing

I deleted all our pictures
I erased your damn number
No more memories to be made
I wrote this ending for us
All in sharpie so you know
That this goodbye is forever..

Love how this captures the on and off again elements of teenage relationships only to cut it off at the ending with 'sharpie'. Very nice
