Broken Today

At times, I dream

            Of a day that’s quite okay-

But instead I find myself sleeping

            With the ghost of yesterday.

Once, Twice, Three times

            I fall away.

Goodbye sweet darling,

            I fear I cannot stay.

 

This heart I have inside my chest

            Has now lost its beat.

Your eyes I see them all around

            But never mine to keep.

My hands reach out for anything

            As the darkness buries deep.

I’ve destroyed all of who I was

            In hopes to find a peace.

 

I’ve fallen down the rabbit hole

            I cannot feel you now

My eyes they’re covered underneath

            The musty, dirty ground.

Goodbye-

I’ve lost all who I am.

            The woman who once stood by your side

                        Is now a broken sound.
