His coffee sits on the table cooling through indifference. The cafe is crowded this morning. Probably due to the rain slowly saturating the streets outside. His paper, unfolded, waits for him. He couldn't care less today. It is probably all bad news anyway. Terrorism. The dollar falling. Global warming. War. Etcetera. His mind is preoccupied with the events of that morning. Not sure what even started it, but the fight was monumental. He had called her a "b***h" as he left. The woman he loves and he had called her a "b***h" over something stupid. The moment replays in his mind as he notices the man at the table next to him put a dollar tip on the table as he stands and quickly walks out the door into the wet morning.

He mumbles to himself, "I can't believe I called her a b***h." It was the one word she hated the most. He shakes his head and thinks about calling her to apologize. Hopefully, she isn't still crying.

He pulls his cellphone out of his jacket pocket. As he opens it to dial, he notices that the man who left the tip at the table next to him has left his black briefcase on the floor beside the chair he had been sitting on.

The number quickly comes to mind and he starts to type it in while forming thoughts of his most heart felt apology. "Damn, I can't believe I called her a b***h."

As the last button is pushed (the numeral nine to be specific), something clicks within the inconspicuous briefcase on the floor at the empty table next to him. Fire and explosive sound erupts throughout the cafe, shattering windows and everything else while disrupting all the days events of all the lives within as well as the future that many no longer will share with the rest of the world. The cafe becomes the crater. A crater created through the indifference of indiscriminate hatred.

And the last thing he remembers is calling the woman he loved a "b***h".

Wow, I really enjoyed this. It was powerful. How unfortunate that his last memory was calling the woman he loves a b***h. In an ironic way, they are connected by that. Because her last memory of him will be him calling her a b***h. He wanted to apologize, but she'll never know that. This bleeds with emotion, turmoil, and remorse. You have done a wonderful job at creating a powerful piece in such brevity.

Live life with no remorse, Good job.

Very powerful and surely makes one stop and ponder. A very well written piece that I am still feeling the effect...

Dear Legion,

Yep, we never know when the end is coming. And we can't fix everything. Often the only recourse it to make sure the damage never happens in the first place. This was a wonderful reminder. Thanks for that. As in any good story, the words painted a vivid picture, were natural to the point that they easily faded away into the wallpaper, and finally left only the message.

Very best regards,

Rick

Nicely done. This is something I have pondered with amusement - wondering if I'll turn to see a car about to crash into me and my last thoughts will be "Oh s**t!" But in the climate we live in today there are serious ramifications from what we say and do - you really never know when your time is up so we should guard our tongues wisely. Thanks for the read.

L, this certainly is something to think about. How often do we call names and say things out of anger to our loved ones including our children, our neighbor, strangers, friends; and not give it a second thought. Too often we take life for granted. We do not consider the fact that we may not make it at the end of the day, what kind of memory will we leave on the minds of our brethren? Powerful.

I really enjoyed this piece. Normally, I try not to let to many negative things into my mind in one day... but, I'm glad a made an exception in this case. I'm sure it will prove to encourage people to be aware and kind with each word that passes through their lips.

.bravo.

Good story! It is a bit depressing to have your last memory being calling a woman, "B***h!"

I was wondering what this had to do with a "Big Bang" all the way through it. Maybe, it implied that they were going to get back together in the post-modern fashion. ;)

Nice write. Keep up the good work! Hopefully, you backed up your work.
