Us Girls

a poem about females wanting to be treated as equals

We did this project in ethics; it was quite interesting too,

Discussing how girls were appointed pink and boys the same with blue.

We thought of the bigger picture, a world of beauty over brains,

The excuses and unfairness, increasing a girl’s mental strain.

You say we have it easy, but to be fair we are judged,

On what we wear, how we act, on every scratch and smudge,

We are looked at as lower, not as strong or as smart,

We feel like just numbers, just plots on a chart.

As kids we were compared to princesses, the ones who cook , clean and care,

Through history we were used as servants, without a say, just there.

On the news there were actresses with lower pays than co-stars,

And the brave words of suffragettes who were locked behind bars.

But now some people are stepping up, throwing away the stereotypes,

With girls wanting equality, fairness and rights.

To the people wanting more and doing something about it ,

As a message to others making us scream and shout it.

Us girls can be scientists, doctors, politicians, anything we dream,

We can do more than just sit there, alone and unseen.

So if you are a feminist or just someone who wants more,

Strive to achieve in life and opportunities will be knocking at your door.
