Restless Mind in the Darkness

Restless Mind in the Darkness

A Poem by Lena M. P.

Night creeps in, encroaching on my soul

Another sleepless evening with my mind overwrought

With what ifs and when can I’s which never seem to pan out

As a tear trickles, to mingle with the tangles in my hair.

The pillows bunched and the sheets asunder

Twisted clothes with twisted dreams

That feed into my neurosis

Adding fuel to an already restless eve.

Where are the flowers and dreams filled with laughter?

When will the peace return to sate my heart?

Let me lie beneath the streams of faded gladness

And repose as a child in fields of golden sunlight.

I like this poem. The feel of darkness and dreams always bring a reader in. A strong ending to a excellent poem.

Been a while since I heard such a tender treatment of this old, old problem: inability to sleep, because your mind will simply NOT shut off, and your heart will not shut up. You have very nicely restated that ageless conundrum that eventually drives a person to spill their guts onto the page, as there seem to be no ears willing to hear, and somehow, those restless feelings MUST be gotten out of our head. Lovely job.
