Work

Work

A Poem by Leonard Birch
"

short poem about working.

"
work the day away,
and rest your head,
when you're told to.

blood and sweat,
they said,
it'll make you stronger.

turn the wheel,
and bend,
your will around it.

twist the key,
they say,
you'll get what's comin' to ya.

don't talk back,
or seem surprised,
it's the worse for you.

work the day away,
and rest your head,
when you're told to.

Author's Note

Leonard Birch
i split it up the way that i would read it aloud,
to add emphasis.

A great piece expressing the resentment of the worker with his lot, but told with humour and a kind of defiance. Reminds me of the song Old Man River
