Waiting in the Rain

Waiting in the Rain

A Poem by Peyton Light
"

A sestina about someone I desperatley miss.

"

The thought of you brings tears to my eyes.

I still remember waiting in the rain.

We knew each other for so long,

Yet you and I were never meant to be.

I looked out for you, and watched over you,

And above all else, I cared.

Even though I didn’t tell you enough times, I always cared.

Perhaps you always saw it in my eyes.

Now I’ve blown my chance, and I’ll never get to tell you,

But you were worth waiting on in the rain.

Because all I ever wanted to be,

Was yours for the long.

Now we can never go back as it’s been so long,

But at least you should know that I always cared.

I never meant for any of this to be,

And I hated seeing the tears in your eyes.

They trickled down your face like rain,

Each one increasing my regret of how badly I hurt you.

If I could see you again then I would say to you “I love you”,

But would you say it back after it’s been so long?

If tomorrow you saw me standing in the rain,

Would you care, or do you think I never cared?

If one day we meet again then please look into my eyes,

And maybe you will see, I never meant for this to be.

Perhaps though, maybe we just weren’t meant to be.

Could that be the case even though I still love you?

How can I go on without seeing your beautiful eyes?

I know that it’s been long,

But you should know I’ve always cared,

And I never minded waiting in the rain.

Did you mind waiting for me in the rain?

Did you think we were destined to be?

You may not know that I cared,

You may not realize I miss you,

But if we saw each other tomorrow, even after it’s been so long,

I’m sure you would have no questions after looking into my eyes.

One look into my eyes, if you could see through all the rain,

You wouldn’t care that it’s been long, because you’d know we were meant to be.

So keep me in your thoughts, for one day I will find you, and prove that I’ve always cared.

I truly empathize with the pain in this piece. I've fallen in love with someone who I was never meant to be with, but the knowledge that we are not compatible doesn't make it hurt any less. The world choice and flow of this piece are excellent, thank you for sharing.

I really enjoyed this poem. It does a good job of using repetition for effect and also using imagery. I think you incorporate the feelings into the poem very well and I get an exact idea of the way the person is feeling.
