A Friend Died Today

A Friend Died Today

A Poem by Letemdangle
"

Be a little kinder.

"
Not a close friend, but a friend of the family.
Not a good friend of mine, but a good friend to many.

She was generous to all the people she loved.
She did not love me, but it was mine for the asking.

Many came to say goodbye. I had yet to say hello.
Not in a shallow way, but in a deeper caring way.

Humor was her medicine. Humor is my medicine.
Eventually, her medicine was not concentrated enough to sustain her.
One day, my medicine will fail me too.

Everyday we pass those with golden hearts encased in cement buildings.
Everyday we build walls of stones with turrets to protect us.

Someday, on everyday, many will expose their souls.
Someday, on everyday, we will recognize those with generous hearts and say, "hello".

I recently learned that a girl who graduated high school with me in 2006 had died. I spent a good while trying to figure out how that made me feel, and how it was supposed to make me feel. Honestly, I feel like you did a better job with it than I did. Thanks for this.
