prologue

The beginning of the story. Nina meets her biological parents.

PROLOGUE
(Nina’s pov)
The day started as it usually did, I combed my hair, brushed my teeth, and got dressed. Today is my 17th Name day and I didn’t care or want to notice I was alone today. As I was headed to school my best friends, Abbie and Olive, came up beside me, we walked in silence until Abbie cleared her throat, signaling to start a conversation. “How are you?” is what I would normally say, but I wanted to bring up something else that had been bothering me lately. “Guys, my life is too normal, I was wondering if you guys had any plans this week” I said as we entered the school gate. “Are you really serious about this or are you just pulling our leg” they said at the same time. “I’m serious, guys.” I said as I turned to face them both. “Um Nina, you might want to turn around,” Abbie said as she and Olive visibly shivered. I turn around to see my uncle aka father standing there, right behind me with a scowling face on. “Hi dad” I said giving him the puppyish, fox look that made him smile. It worked but then the smile disappeared. “Hi Dean Tatima” Abbie and Olive said as they backed away. “Good day, young ladies” he said as they ran for their lives. I casted my gaze to the floor, I hated when he did this. “You didn’t have to do that,” I mumbled under my breath. I already know what he’s going to say and here it comes, “You shouldn’t mumble under your breath and yes I did have to do that, I don’t want you around those types of girls, I thought I told you that already” my ADOPTIVE father continued on “And what’s wrong with your life, I think it’s perfectly fine, you know after I put you in this new school of course,” he said as I thought of my old school. Wondering why I left? Well the answer is right in front of me. My own uncle told me that they weren’t of my status, that I was smarter and better than them. Them meaning my friends and I told him that they were my friends, not competition. He told me I was high in brains than anyone of the idiots that went to my school and enrolled me into the college he owned, Normand. Ugly name, right? The school was four stories and more than a thousand went to this college. I really hated it here, my uncle became the worst thing in the world that had no fun to himself. Im gonna ditch after lunch then go to the park with my twin, vela, who is a big ditcher. No, she unfortunately doesn’t go to my school. But we freaked out when we met each other including my twin brother, who does in fact go to this school. What’s with all the twins? Well we’re triplets and we all got abandoned and we all have what our father would call, super genius brains, or S.G.B for short. Anyways, this will be my first time ditching, I do hope it works and I don’t get caught. I looked up to see my father scowling me again. “Are you even listening?” he asked annoyed now. “Yea…no” I said flat out as I walked right past him. I hear him sigh in annoyance and the clicker of his shoes as he walked away. I knew I was gonna get the lecture of my life later but I didn’t care. I walked into the class room and everyone stopped and stared. I ignored them all and sat next to my brother and his friends, who were no better than mine. (Lunch time) Time for me to ditch, I thought as I walked out the front gate and headed for the park. It didn’t take too long for my brother to catch up to me. “Hi Nina” he said as he hugged me. “Hello Alber” I said as we walked holding each other’s hand in a brotherly sister way. “So, you guys just gonna leave me out of the family love, man that’s just rude” I heard vela say as I grabbed her hand as well. We were walking near the old bench near the parking lot because vela brought her car and wanted to check on her “baby”. I decided to go and sit on the bench and just enjoy the view. Vela and Alber both came back, vela looking relieved that her “baby” was fine. Alber turns around to see a guy staring at me “HEY, don’t stare at my sister like that, who do you think you are?” Alber yelled at a man in a black van who was, indeed staring at me. “Kid, why don’t you mind your own business, I’m just looking at the trees, gosh” he said as he got out of his car and walked up to us. ”see what ya did you idiot, you attracted an unwanted stranger, who might be a pervert now we’re gonna get caught” Vela yelled at Alber. Then it all went dark.
