A simple sad song.

When I was young my mother left

She never came back home

I stood beside the door just waiting

On an empty porch

I asked my neighbours if they saw her

And they all said no

Some even burst to tears

And then they headed into their homes

I wondered why they cried 

As no one told me what they knew

I didn't understand 

Nobody tried to talk me through

I kept waiting for so long

I missed my mum

But she was gone

This is good! the only thing I would change is the rhythm in the lines that say "and they all said no"... try "and all they said was no" maybe? And another line.. "as no one told me what they knew." The extra syllables make it sound a bit run on. Maybe try "no one told me what they knew"
