WHITECHAPEL MURDERS

WHITECHAPEL MURDERS

A Poem by LinBin
"

I grew up in and around the Whitechapel area of London and I worked on the same street where the murders took place, the area has much changed since but many ghosts remain....

"

WHITECHAPEL

IT WAS 1888, AND WHITECHAPEL WAS WHERE THE POOR WENT TO PLAY

HOME TO PROSTITUTES; DESTITUTES AND PEOPLE WHO'D LOST THEIR WAY

THE AREA STOOD GRIM IN EAST LONDON, SHADOWS LURKED ON UNLIT STREETS

CLOAKED MEN WITH MONEY TO SPARE, CAME LOOKING FOR SEXUAL TREATS

CARRIAGES WITH BLACKED OUT WINDOWS, GENTLEMAN WHO CAME CALLING

WOMEN WHO OFFERED ALL THEY HAD, AND ENDURED MENS LUSTFUL MAULING

THIS WAS THE DEVILS PLAYGROUND AND IT WAS HERE THE DEVIL STRUCK

HE SOUGHT OUT THE VERY VULNERABLE, WOMEN DOWN ON THEIR LUCK

HE WAS THE FACELESS BEAST IN THE SHADOWS, A MURDERER SO DEPRAVED

HE TORE APART THE WOMEN, SHEDDING THE BLOOD HE CLEARLY CRAVED

ONE VICTIM AFTER ANOTHER BEFELL HIM, LIVES TORN VICIOUSLY APART

THE POLICE COULD NEVER CATCH HIM, A MADMAN WITH A STONE FOR A HEART

THE VICTIMS INCLUDED MARY, ANNIE,ELIZABETH, CATHERINE AND MARY-JANE,

POOR WOMEN WHO NEVER STOOD A CHANCE, AND BY HIS HAND, WERE SLAIN

WAS HE A PRINCE, A DOCTOR OR AN IMMIGRANT TO LONDON'S SHORE

WAS HE WELL KNOWN TO THE AREA, WAS HE ALONE OR WAS THERE MORE

JACK THE RIPPER, A SERIAL KILLER WHO ESCAPED THE LONG ARM OF THE LAW

A MAN WHOSE IDENTITY REMAINS HIDDEN BUT MAYBE NOT FOR EVER MORE......

Bravo! Well done and more, you wrote the tale of Jack with great aplomb and meter, made the awful goings-on into a kind of folk song. In fact, is there one, there could be, if not, find some music?!

You're a very clever writer, and I so hope you gradually or even better, quickly, acquire a great list of followers.
Thank you for sharing.
