Heroes that I once knew

Heroes that I once knew

Four of my own personal heroes who I knew well and who made a great and lasting impact on my life......this is for them xxx

"

HEROES THAT I ONCE KNEW

He founded the Samaritans and reached out to all those who needed urgent care; A British Anglican Priest who wanted to reach out to all those caught up in despair

He set up help centers; ensuring there were always people at the end of the phone; He reached out to all the lonely people and told them that they need not be alone

In 1953 Chad Vara set up the world’s first crisis help line for the depressed & suicidal; He wanted to ensure everybody had somewhere to go and someone they could call

Chad was born in 1911 and died aged 95; he was a gentleman through and through; He was a man who helped save a million lives and was a hero that I once knew.......

He was a boy who was born healthy, with the ability to walk, talk; enjoy a football game; He was run over by a speeding car and his life from then on was never to be the same

A beautiful life completely altered by a thoughtless woman talking on her mobile phone; A cherished Childs life left in crisis by an act so very hard to understand or condone

He was left completely paralyzed from the neck down, unable to move, talk or even eat; He could no longer run his fingers through his hair or kick a football with his feet

Jack Lehane was a wonderful little boy, who lit up the room with his angelic smile; His eyes still sparkled as they ever did and his spirit could still enchant and beguile

Jack was a beautiful 12 year old boy with blond hair and laughing eyes of emerald blue; He died just over a year after being run over and was a hero that I once knew.........

He was an amazing young man, charismatic, funny and possessed with a devilish wit; He was handsome, kind and caring, wittily self described as tall, dark and very fit

He was living life to the max when all at once his life was altered by a diagnosis of H.I.V; He never once felt sorry for himself and just kept saying “that’s life, what will be will be”

He continued to live life to the fullest, & supported his friends through their own denial; He taught us all to live one day at a time and to keep on smiling all the while

Trent Carter Gee was 24 when he died, his friends were plenty, and his enemies few; He was truly the bravest of the brave and he was a hero that I once knew.......

He was a true gentleman, a quiet, thoughtful man who loved his children and his wife;He was someone you could rely on, someone who I was so grateful to have in my life

He was born in the east end of London in 1926, a man who always worked so very hard;He was a champion featherweight boxer in the army and he became a grenadier guard

He was a thoughtful man, he couldn't stand intolerance or racism or any form of bigotry; He lived his life honestly with clear values and was always where he was meant to be

When injured out of the army, he sought out any available work that he could do; He became a jack of all trades; a builder, a painter and a specialist decorator too

He was a handsome and gentle man and he made a very loyal and worthy friend; He was someone who people looked up to; a man on whom you could depend

Alexander Thomas died in 1999, he was proud to be of the red, white and blue;He was the man I was proud to call my father and was a hero that I once knew....

DEDICATED TO CHAD, JACK, TRENT AND MY BELOVED FATHER......My heroes

What can one say? A publication declaration of their worth says a lot about you too.
Too often heroes go unsung, so a poem seems very apt.
