The Lake Near Home: Part 2

Pack it all up, everything you own

We’re going camping at the lake near home

Pack up the clothes and blankets too

Don’t forget the tent or we’ll sleep in the dew

Hook up the boat that’s the color of green

It’ll be the best campin’ trip you’ve ever seen

Grab the tackle box, the poles and the bait

Hurry up now, I don’t want to wait!

Everything’s ready, it’s time to go

Glad we’re in the south and there won’t be any snow

Hop in the truck, I let him steer

Gonna stop at the store, fill the cooler with beer

Back in the truck and off to the campground

Radio playing some wonderful sound

We drive for an hour, not much more than that

The campground is close, hope we get our favorite plat

We pull in slowly, scanning the sights

We choose where to camp, where we’ll spend our nights

Jump out of the truck and pitch the tent

It’s huge, like a house, money well spent

Into the tent go the clothes neatly packed

Glad that an air mattress isn’t something that’s lacked

Set up the grill and all the lawn chairs

We’ll see some raccoons but not any bears

The work is done, we’re all set to camp

Off we go, take the boat to the ramp

The sun is out, the sky is blue

A little bit of fishin’ is what we’re gonna do

Fishin all day til the sun goes down

We’re a long way from the nearest town

A small pile of sticks and we’ll make a fire

A lantern in a tree hangs from a wire

Sitting at the camp, cold beer in hand

Music playing softly, it’s our favorite band

He stands up and begins to prance

Holds out his hand, he wants me to dance

Arm in arm we go, we’re probably quite a sight

Dancing ‘round and ‘round in the pale moonlight

It doesn’t matter what plays, lyrics short or long

‘Keeper of the stars ‘ is our favorite song

Dance a few more, it’s been a long day

“It’s time for bed, let’s go to sleep” I say

And off we go into our tent like a dome
