Written for my grand daughter, who was being picked on at school because of her freckles.

What makes you so special?

Perhaps it’s your eyes of blue?

Maybe it’s the length of your hair

What is so special about you?

Can you run like Speedy Gonzalez?

Or maybe you can add two and two

Do you like to read a lot?

What is so special about you?

Is it the way your nose turns up?

Dance or run, what do you do?

So tell me now and not a minute later,

What is so special about you?

I think it might be your freckles, so many

It might even be an arm or two

There are so many things it could be

What is so special about you?

Can you write stories or a tall tale?

Write this and that and poetry too

Write the newspaper and a book

What is so special about you?

Anything and everything, that’s what I think

Whatever you say or write or do

Dance or freckles or eyes so blue

That is what is special about you!
